I really recommend this small hotel, for people enjoying a cozy room with simple amenities. I (35, f) was there for five nights during a business trip. I felt very safe and slept very well. Everything in the room as well as in the tea room and kitchen was very clean. The bed was comfortable with a harder matress, which I definitely prefer instead of the often very soft ones in the US. I like the cozy "grandma-feel-at-home" style with the older furniture and carpets with flowers. Although it might seemed a little aged, everything was kept in good condition. I enjoyed beeing able to have tea, coffee and water at all times in the coffee room. There is also a microwave and toaster in the community kitchen. The house itself is old and in some parts narrow. You might hear someone walking on the old wooden floors. It was, however, always very quiet and everyone I met from the staff, from the front desk to the cleaning personal, was very nice and accomondating. The price is very fair for the hotel and location, just a few minutes by foot from Harvard Square, the metro and Harvard Business School. I had a very pleasant stay at The Friendly Inn and would definitly come back. Thank you!

Stayed for one night and had a wonderful experience. The location is amazing (very close to Harvard), the room was very well equipped and beautifully decorated with wooden furniture, and the hospitality was warm and effective. I especially liked the constantly available tea and coffee in the common room downstairs. The only downside is that the room was small, especially the bathroom and shower.

Quaint inn! Easy check in, and on site parking available. Very accommodating & helpful staff! Rooms with private bathroom & fridge. Common space for coffee/kitchen area! Would recommend and stay again.

An excellent place to stay. Very clean and all facilities provided. Although there are no coffee or tea making facilities in the room, you just have to go to the kitchen and a whole range of tea and coffee brands and coffee making machines are available. There is also a nice kitchenette cum dining space with a microwave should you want to heat something and eat. We appreciated the discreet room cleaning and very specially, the number of hooks and hanging spaces in the room and bathroom to hand clothes/ towels! I would highly recommend this unobtrusive Inn especially if you are visiting Harvard.

I’ve loved to stay at the Friendly Inn. The room was spacey, very clean and came with a private bathroom -with toiletries, iron and hair drier-, small fridge, heater and TV. The bed was comfortable indeed. I asked for a quiet bedroom since I am a light sleeper and they gave me the best for that. I slept tight and so comfortably. The location is excellent, walking distance to Harvard campus, Harvard square. The staff has been the kindest. I wish to recognize Axel. He’s been helpful indeed with recommendations and inquiries. Definitely I’ll be back!

I just finished a stay at this inn, and like you, had read a wide range of diverse reviews. Here is the thing: this obviously isn't the four seasons. Or even a Marriott. But you're not paying four seasons or Marriott prices. It's an eccentrically built, old building, so it's going to have non-standard, old rooms and dated decor, but our room, at least, was totally fine. The bed was comfortable, the bedding was crisp and clean, and there was plenty of space. All the rooms are probably different - ours had three little separate areas (we joked that it was our suite) and we were quite comfortable, even using it as a home base we frequently went back to to recharge during the days of our stay. Which you can do because of the amazing location. So don't let the negative reviews sway you if you are looking for a (relatively) affordable option in a great location.
